Garden 10 in San Pedro
Design: Rick Fisher, Toyon Design
Garden Size: Three-acres of the 102-acre site
Started: 2009
Notable Features: This demonstration garden emphasizes the Tongva’s cultural connection to native plants. Plants laid out in compass orientation symbolize the stages of life and seasonal cycles. Walk the recommended route: east, south, west, north. A sundial shows the solstice and equinox set in stones on the ground, and a bioswale captures rain. Formerly a WWII military bunker, concrete from that period now serves as seating for visitors.
